چکیده

We address the problem of reconstructing a scene background from a set of photographs featuring several occluding objects. We assume that the photographs are obtained from the same view point and under similar illumination conditions. Our approach consists of defining the scene background as a labeling over the set of input exposures, then assigning each labeling a cost, and finally minimizing the associated cost function. The cost function penalizes deviations from the following two model assumptions: background objects are stationary, and background objects are more likely to appear across the input exposures. We approximate object stationariness using a motion boundary consistency term, and object likelihood using kernel density estimations on a decorrelated color space. Both estimates are combined using an entropy-based weighting function. Furthermore, we constraint our solution space in order to prevent partial classification of occluding objects as background, thus avoiding cutting through objects. The cost function is minimized by using graph cuts, and the final result is composed using gradient domain fusion. Our method benefits from the appropriate selection of color spaces for each task. We apply our method to the recovering of clean, unoccluded shots of crowded public places. We also demonstrate the application of our method to the removal of ghosting artifacts during the reconstruction of high dynamic range images from multi-exposure sequences. Our contribution is the definition of an automatic method for consistent background estimation from multiple exposures with occluders, and its application to ghost removal in high dynamic range image reconstruction.

Background estimation from non-time sequence images

We address the problem of reconstructing the background of a scene from a set of photographs featuring several occluding objects. We assume that the photographs are obtained from the same viewpoint and under similar illumination conditions. Our approach is to define the background as a composite of the input photographs. Each possible composite is assigned a cost, and the resulting cost functio...

Ghost removal in HDRI acquisition

This paper presents a fast, robust and completely automatic technique for creating high dynamic range images of non-static scenes. The technique is based on probability maps. These maps are calculated with comparison function from sequences of hand-held photographs. In practice, several basic problems occur when taking an image sequence. First, the camera is moving which causes images to misali...

Ghost and Noise Removal in Exposure Fusion for High Dynamic Range Imaging

For producing a single high dynamic range image (HDRI), multiple low dynamic range images (LDRIs) are captured with different exposures and combined. In high dynamic range (HDR) imaging, local motion of objects and noise in a set of LDRIs can influence a final HDRI: local motion of objects causes the ghost artifact and LDRIs, especially captured with under-exposure, make the final HDRI noisy. I...

Ghost-free Image Using Blur and Noise Estimation

This paper presents an efficient image enhancement method by fusion of two different exposure images in low-light condition. We use two degraded images with different exposures: one is a long-exposure image that preserves the brightness but contains blur and the other is a short-exposure image that contains a lot of noise but preserves object boundaries. The weight map used for image fusion wit...

Constrain Propagation for Ghost Removal in High Dynamic Range Images

Creating high dynamic range images of non-static scenes is currently a challenging task. Carefully preventing strong camera shakes during shooting and performing image-registration before combining the exposures cannot ensure that the resulting hdr image is consistent. This is eventually due to the presence of moving objects in the scene that causes the so called ghosting artifacts. Different a...
